Japhnee “Jaye” Metellus joined the center’s staff in 2022 and is currently the center’s full-time Coordinator. Born in Haiti and raised in the vibrant cultural blend of Miami, Florida, she grew up immersed in both Haitian and American traditions. She is also fluent in three languages, a reflection of her multicultural background. For over 20 years, she taught preschool-aged children, always incorporating art into her lesson plans. Her creativity thrived in the classroom, where she encouraged young minds to express themselves freely, unafraid of criticism. That’s when she realized her calling—to nurture children’s artistic expression. Today, she continues to explore various mediums, with a passion for mixed media combined with acrylics. She teaches art classes for both children and adults at the center.
