Above A Whisper – Hear My Art

Janet Vines, from Bonham, Texas, is a prolific acrylic artist with her works now showing in three Southern galleries: in Bonham at the Creative Arts Center, in Denison at Sparrows Gallery, and now Dexter, Missouri at Authentic Arts Gallery. Janet specializes in black and white paintings, and pet portraits and has been an in-demand artist for organizations in Sherman, Denison, and Bonham for commissioned works.

A graduate of Louisiana Tech University, she is an accomplished singer/songwriter, speaker, entertainer, and art instructor.

Janet’s art story spans her lifetime having loved art from an early age, mostly influenced by the Dutch masters, and hyper-realistic art. She prefers acrylic, because, as she says, “I’m a messy artist!” Her original goal in college was to be a Disney animator, but opportunities to speak, sing, lead praise and worship, and entertain took her attention from her art to the stage, where, as a singer, she’s performed throughout the south and southwest as well as overseas. She began writing and composing music, and was working on her original album in 2007, when she received a medical diagnosis that would change her life forever. In surgery, two vocal cords were severed resulting not only in damaging her speaking voice, which was now barely above a whisper, but also destroying her ability to sing.

In 2014, however, she decided to paint a large painting for the wall of her home. When she posted it on Facebook, it sold in thirty minutes. Since then, she’s sold many of her works—wildlife, textured abstracts, paint pours, florals, cowboys and sunsets as well as many pet portraits through her Wags ‘N Whiskers Custom Pet Portraits side of Janet Vines Fine Arts.
