A Day at Double O Seven Farms: Creative Arts Center Visits a Local Organic Gem
There’s nothing quite like a beautiful fall day in Fannin County—especially when it includes a field trip full of nature, learning, and community connection.
Recently, Creative Arts Center Director Sandy Barber, Program Coordinator Japhnee “Jaye” Metellus, and Board Member Caroline Blackwell hit the road for a two-part adventure north of Bonham. Their second stop brought them to a true local treasure: The Nursery at Double O Seven Farms in northern Fannin County.
Upon arrival, they were joined by fellow Board Member Jessie Bryant and warmly welcomed by farm owner Justin Bond, who offered a tour of the property and graciously answered every question the group had—of which there were many!
An Organic Oasis
Located in Telephone, Texas, The Nursery at Double O Seven Farms is a family-owned organic farm run by Justin and Elizabeth Bond alongside their four children. The farm specializes in Texas native plants and edible landscapes, grown with care using organic and regenerative practices.
The group from the Creative Arts Center enjoyed exploring the greenhouse and garden beds at the front of the property. At the time of the visit, the farm was full of fall beauty—plenty of pumpkins, colorful mums, and even a few butterfly-covered flower beds that stopped everyone in their tracks.
In addition to fresh produce and flowers, the nursery also offers seed packets for those looking to grow their own gardens at home. Of course, our Creative Arts Center crew couldn’t resist! They had a great time selecting plants and seeds, while Justin happily shared tips on how and when to plant, and how to care for each variety.
Growing Connections
Beyond plants, the visit also planted the seeds for something exciting: Sandy Barber and Justin Bond had a thoughtful conversation about potential collaborations between the farm and the Creative Arts Center. While nothing is official just yet, we’re buzzing with ideas—and we hope to share more in the near future. Stay tuned!
